Updates as of March 27, 2020:

The Healy Lake Traditional Council will be sending Connor MacDonald to Healy Lake on Tuesday, March 31 to deliver equipment and supplies. Included in these supplies will be the over-the-counter medications that TCC has given us.

The Council is also working on a plan to make regular trips to Healy Lake to deliver groceries ordered by residents. Items will be delivered to the doorstep of each household and it is recommended that you sanitize any item that can be reasonably cleaned.

Financial assistance specific to the coronavirus outbreak is available through funding from Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC). If your income has been affected or you are incurring additional costs because of the outbreak, you may be eligible.

Updates as of March 20, 2020:

Until further notice, the Healy Lake Traditional Council has decided that all showers and laundry at the Washeteria will be free of charge, and it will remain unlocked and open.
The Council has received limited funding towards assistance to those who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Those impacted may fill out the paper form or Google form. The Council has developed three criteria that will be used to evaluate applications:

  1. Has your income been affected by the outbreak?
  2. Are you incurring extra expenses due to the outbreak?
  3. Can the resources you are requesting be met elsewhere?

It is encouraged that Healy Lake community members refrain from travelling. Please limit your exposure to those who have recently travelled. Until further notice, the gate will remain open and unlocked as a safety measure. Tribal staff will be posting a sign prohibiting entry to Healy Lake by nonresidents.

Updates as of March 17, 2020:

The Healy Lake Traditional Council has met regarding the recent coronavirus outbreak and is currently planning to ensure the safety of our tribal members and employees. The Council is adopting several of the recommendations made by the US Center for Disease Control in order to minimize the harm the coronavirus could have on our community.

All tribal members or residents who have lived in Healy Lake for more than one calendar year can request emergency funding through the council by contacting Bertha Rickman at (907) 371-9361 or Evelynn Combs at (907) 371-9533.

On Wednesday, March 18 at 1:00pm AKST, the Healy Lake Traditional Council will host an informational meeting for tribal members and residents to ask questions and get resources concerning the outbreak.

The Council is strongly encouraging those who have the means to call in on their own devices at (907) 371-9533. The office in Healy Lake will be open and hosting those who cannot call in on their own devices. The office in Fairbanks will not be open to walk-in foot traffic for the foreseeable future and will not be open for tomorrow’s call. If you cannot attend the meeting, you can contact someone on the Council.

Chief Andrew Isaac is encouraging everyone to contact their pharmacy with a mailing address so they can begin to receive their medications in the mail. Tanana Chiefs Conference is currently discussing how to implement a plan that would provide dry goods to rural communities.
