Welcome to our website! Healy Lake is a federally recognized tribe of Alaska, in the United States of America. We are an Upper Tanana Athabascan tribe, located within the Tanana Chiefs Conference and Doyon, Ltd. Regions. OurĀ 5-mile long lake lies on the course of the Healy River, 29 miles east of Delta Junction and about 109 miles away from Fairbanks.

Healy Lake is one of the oldest communities in Alaska. In fact, we have archaeological records that date a permanent residence at Healy Lake back to over 11,000 years!

The traditional name for our village is Mendas Cha’ag, which means “body of water, with an outlet” in our native language: Tanacross Athabascan. We have few speakers of our language left, so our hope is that our tribal youth can learn it before it’s gone.

Our Vision:

Healy Lake Village envisions a healthy, self-sustaining, and growing community for current and future Tribal members and community residents. We equally respect each other and respect the local wildlife and resources. Through hard work and dedication Healy Lake is determined to reach the goals identified in our community plan in order to increase our population size and reopen our school. Our Youth are our future and deserve to lead in a positive way for the survival of our community and culture. The vision is to promote educational and employment opportunities and provide healthcare services and housing to all who are interested.
